Editorial and Peer Review Policy
Editorial policy
The core editorial policy refers to the following:
- We invite authors to publish contributions which have not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
- The journal promotes interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary contributions and international co-authorship.
- We are striving for rapid review and publication process.
- There are no submission charges for publication in the Journal of Innovative Business and Management.
- We publish contributions in Slovenian and English languages; each contribution must have a summary in both languages.
The MIP=JIBM is published twice a year. Normally the first publication appears at the end of June and the second one in November of the same year.
Double blind peer review
ll articles are double blind reviewed. Internationally renowned experts from the academic, research and business world are involved in the process of anonymous double blind reviews mostly as a members of the advisory international editorial board. The purpose of this is not to make it impossible for publishers to possibly not fulfill the missions of the MIP=JIBM, but to offer authors an opportunity to improve their texts using anonymous reviews in accordance with the best academic and research standards.
After editors find that the received contribution follows the journal’s aim and scope and is appropriate for review, the manuscript is sent to two independent reviewers for a blind peer review. The reviewers are not institutionally affiliated with the author of the article submitted for publication.
The primary role of peer reviewes is to help the contributors reach a level of quality that is publishable, not to find reason to reject the selection. Reviewers are free to choose among all options: from full acceptance, over suggesting or requiring changes up to rejection. Changes suggested by the reviewers may be subject to discussion with the authors, thus giving free forum for scientific and/or professional arguments. The blind peer review process normally takes between three and five weeks.
All communication between authors and reviewers conducte anonymously by providing one of the editors via the OJS.
Peer reviews are not paid for.
Policy on the Use of GenAI Tools
The journal Mednarodno inovativno poslovanje = Journal of Innovative Business and Management is committed to maintaining high quality, integrity, and credibility in published scientific contributions. At the same time, we recognize the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI (GenAI) tools.
This policy governs the use of GenAI tools across all stages of the MIP=JIBM publication process—for authors, reviewers, and editorial board members.
The aim of this policy is to ensure that any use of GenAI tools is transparent, responsible, and aligned with principles of academic ethics, data protection, copyright, and the quality of scholarly content.
General Principles
Human oversight is essential
Outputs generated by GenAI tools are not inherently reliable and cannot replace expert human judgment.
Responsibility
No GenAI tool can assume full responsibility for any aspect of scholarly work—responsibility remains with authors, reviewers, and editors.
Transparency
Any use of GenAI tools (beyond purely technical enhancement) must be clearly disclosed.
Protection of confidentiality and copyright
Particularly in peer review and unpublished manuscripts, the use of GenAI must not compromise confidentiality, security, or copyright.
Guidelines for Authors
Permitted use for language and formatting improvement
The use of GenAI tools for proofreading, grammar correction, stylistic improvement, or technical formatting is allowed.
Mandatory disclosure for broader use
If authors use GenAI tools for more complex tasks—such as generating text passages, summaries, ideas, or assisting with analysis—this must be clearly stated in the manuscript (e.g., in the Methods or Appendix section).
Prohibition of manipulation of original research data
The use of GenAI to generate, alter, or manipulate primary research data, images, graphs, or measurements is not permitted.
Rights and confidentiality
Authors must ensure they have the rights to any content uploaded into GenAI tools and that such uploads do not disclose confidential information. When using publicly available GenAI services, authors should consider the risk that their inputs may be reused for other users or future models.
Authorship
GenAI tools must not be listed as authors, as they cannot assume responsibility for the work. Authorship is reserved exclusively for individuals who contributed to and take responsibility for the work.
Guidelines for Reviewers
No use of GenAI for writing reviews
Reviews must be written by the assigned reviewer and must not rely on GenAI tools to generate review text, due to concerns regarding reliability, accountability, and independent expert judgment.
Prohibition of uploading manuscripts to public GenAI services
Reviewers must not upload unpublished manuscripts or any parts thereof to publicly accessible GenAI platforms, as this may breach confidentiality, copyright, and data security.
Reporting suspected misuse of GenAI
If a reviewer suspects that an author has failed to disclose the use of GenAI or has used it inappropriately, they must inform the handling editor.
Guidelines for the Editorial Team
Assessment of disclosed practices
The editorial team will evaluate, on a case-by-case basis, the justification and appropriateness of disclosed GenAI use, considering the content, field, and extent of use.
Avoidance of public GenAI tools for integrity checks
Editors should avoid using publicly available GenAI platforms for plagiarism detection or other integrity checks, as this may compromise manuscript confidentiality.
Monitoring and compliance policy
The editorial team should establish a system of review or control to verify that disclosures regarding GenAI use comply with the journal’s policy.
Communication and training
The editorial team will inform authors and reviewers about this policy, any updates, and provide guidance where necessary to ensure understanding of both the benefits and risks of GenAI use.
Procedures for Non-Compliance
If the editorial team or a reviewer determines that an author has failed to disclose the use of GenAI or has used it in violation of this policy, the editor may request clarification, revision, or withdrawal of the manuscript. In serious or repeated cases, disciplinary measures may be applied, such as a temporary publication ban or notification of the author’s institution.
