The idea of directing children into the world of engineering was spurred from the need for popularization of technological sciences especially in the year 2000 when the interest of young people for technical professions was declining. Consequently the schools, especially the Secondary Mechanical School of Maribor, were struggling to survive. To encourage and to direct the children into the world of engineering the Society of mechanical engineers Maribor started the project “Directing children into the world of engineering”.
The project represents an innovative approach to early learning of engineering and mechanics through the variety of techniques and methods to encourage the children for decision to pursue their professional career in engineering. Children of elementary schools learn and get acquainted with world of mechanics and engineering in an interesting and creative ways through project work, theoretical and practical assignments, field excursions, courses of programming mobile robots, construction of simple mechanical parts in 3D technology and in individual and team competition.
The project is carried out through the Society of mechanical engineers Maribor in cooperation with the Secondary Mechanical School of Maribor, students and professors of Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Maribor and with help from members of Regional Chamber of Craft and small business of Maribor.
