Intermodal Transport and Inovative Education

Abstract

Due to the limited capacity of road infrastructure in the EU and large negative impacts of road transport on the environment, intermodal transport as environmentally friendly mode of transport, is becoming more and more important. Professionals involved in strategic decision making, on lower levels, involved in the design of logistic solutions need to be equipped with modern and practical knowledge and skills about intermodal transport. Moreover, education institutions need the access to practice oriented training material, including concrete best practice examples.

Therefore the Transport economics centre of Faculty of Civil Engineering of University of Maribor had joined the European project "TraLoTra", which aims to promote and standardize the educational processes in the field of intermodal transport, to enhance the professional skill of personnel and management of logistics companies and to improve the intermodal transport.

Innovative educational instruments developed within the TraLoTra project with internationally acceptable content improve the understanding of intermodal transport concept and therefore increase the awareness of the benefits of intermodal transport that can have to business and to the society as whole.
