Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy

Mednarodno inovativno poslovanje = Journal of Innovative Business and Management  (MIP=JIBM) recognizes that generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted technologies can support researchers and contribute to more efficient scholarly communication. Their use must, however, comply with the principles of academic integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and human accountability.

Guidelines for Authors

Permitted use for language and formatting improvement
The use of GenAI tools for proofreading, grammar correction, stylistic improvement, or technical formatting is allowed.

Mandatory disclosure for broader use
If authors use GenAI tools for more complex tasks—such as generating text passages, summaries, ideas, or assisting with analysis—this must be clearly stated in the manuscript (e.g., in the Methods or Appendix section).

Prohibition of manipulation of original research data
The use of GenAI to generate, alter, or manipulate primary research data, images, graphs, or measurements is not permitted.

Rights and confidentiality
Authors must ensure they have the rights to any content uploaded into GenAI tools and that such uploads do not disclose confidential information. When using publicly available GenAI services, authors should consider the risk that their inputs may be reused for other users or future models.

Authorship
GenAI tools must not be listed as authors, as they cannot assume responsibility for the work. Authorship is reserved exclusively for individuals who contributed to and take responsibility for the work.

Guidelines for Reviewers

No use of GenAI for writing reviews
Reviews must be written by the assigned reviewer and must not rely on GenAI tools to generate review text, due to concerns regarding reliability, accountability, and independent expert judgment.

Prohibition of uploading manuscripts to public GenAI services
Reviewers must not upload unpublished manuscripts or any parts thereof to publicly accessible GenAI platforms, as this may breach confidentiality, copyright, and data security.

Reporting suspected misuse of GenAI
If a reviewer suspects that an author has failed to disclose the use of GenAI or has used it inappropriately, they must inform the handling editor.

Guidelines for the Editorial Team

Assessment of disclosed practices
The editorial team will evaluate, on a case-by-case basis, the justification and appropriateness of disclosed GenAI use, considering the content, field, and extent of use.

Avoidance of public GenAI tools for integrity checks
Editors should avoid using publicly available GenAI platforms for plagiarism detection or other integrity checks, as this may compromise manuscript confidentiality.

Monitoring and compliance policy
The editorial team should establish a system of review or control to verify that disclosures regarding GenAI use comply with the journal’s policy.

Communication and training
The editorial team will inform authors and reviewers about this policy, any updates, and provide guidance where necessary to ensure understanding of both the benefits and risks of GenAI use.

Procedures for Non-Compliance

If the editorial team or a reviewer determines that an author has failed to disclose the use of GenAI or has used it in violation of this policy, the editor may request clarification, revision, or withdrawal of the manuscript. In serious or repeated cases, disciplinary measures may be applied, such as a temporary publication ban or notification of the author’s institution.
